We picked one of the few things not on our tour, cooking school. The Orchid cooking school and restaurant was amazing. First a ride in a cyclo with our instructor and chef Hung to the market to buy ingredients for the meal: spring rolls, mango salad, and cha ca ha nqi, a traditional honoi bbq'ed fish dish. Then to the restaurant with the kitchen on the top floor of 6 floors. What a great experience and delicious meal that we prepared together with the chef. Fun people all around especially the food vendors when we stopped to sample things we had never heard of before, and they all tasted good. There is no way to experience this on your own and we lucked as we were the only 2 for this class.

  1. Love the bright fruit and vegetables. Are you making summer rolls? It's hard to see if there's a wrapper on those wooden boards. In the US, the class would probably have been cancelled if only 2 people were signed up. Maybe there, they were happy to have 2 students!

  2. Yes, they are spring rolls and we know how to wrap them. We bought all the ingredients for the meal from different vendors at the food markets. It appears the afternoon session is more popular because they were full.

  3. Yes and you should have seen Susan with that knife. They also have a charcoal grill for the fish that rivals anything we saw in Louisiana, especially the fan assist, out the open window of the sixth floor. Post pic later
